South Boston

customer: Honey, can a get some singles?
me: yes.  Not honey.
Customer: thanks Honey
me: You are welcome.  Again, not honey.
customer: I call everyone honey.
me: you don't call me honey, honey.

***********************************
customer: yea, can i get black jimmies on that?

There is an argument that the term jimmies is a racist term  because chocolate sprinkles look like little jim crows. I only give it credence when people say rainbow jimmies are sprinkles.  If rainbow jimmies are jimmies then that argument makes no sense.

Anyway you look at it, black jimmies seems racist.

wedding website

The Fiancee and I now have a wedding website. Its lame, but its there.

MJ

In other news, there was no other news. Didn't year hear? Michael Jackson's memorial was yestarday - world peace broke out and CA was no longer broke. Nobody died, Iran is smooth sailing, North Korea no longer hates us, there was no crime.

Thank god congress had a moment of silence and CA spent over 2 million it didn't have on an accused child molester and drug addict. I wish all this media "mourning" (besides radio stations) were more about his poor children who lost thier father than about what a wonderful guy MJ was. In my opinion that is the biggest tragedy here. I believe it is sad a 50 year old man had a heart attack but probably not the only tragedy that has happened in the last few weeks. He was a great musician but that doesn't make him a wonderful guy.

bad dogs

I complain i have monsters and I do, but in comparison to how they used to be, I have angels. I come home to a sight I had not seen in a very long time yesterday. Jack and Dana had eaten their way entirely through the large tupperware container that holds 20 lbs of dog food... and then eaten the dog food.

When I got home they were happily throwing up dog food and re-eating it. Thier moto: why enjoy something once when you can enjoy it twice.

update Week 10/wedding update

Apparently I gained 3 pounds.  I believe that to be not entirely accurate and not entirely untrue.  I am sure I gained a pound or maybe two.  The handle of tequila and 2 handles of margarita mix I split on sat night, as well as the 6 pack of mikes from friday or possibly all the cookout food most likely contributed to that.  Thats ok.  I have a two day party (more on that later). Id rather gain a little back and enjoy myself.  The wedding is more than 10 months away so I have more than 40 weeks to lose 25 pounds or so.  Thats fine.

Wedding updates.

I am now the proud owner of 26 of these pretty white lighthouses.  That ugly orange candle is being swapped out, as its ugly and also citronella, and a white, black or pink candle (yet to be determined) or possibly a  tea light or battery operated tea light will be swapped in.  It will be placed on a mirror with sea shells and sea glass.

Its my centerpieces.  Floral centerpieces run about 100 bucks a pop.  The lighthouses were 4.99, I have found appropriate mirrors for $3.00 and the shells and sea glass are $1.00 a bag, 1 bag per 3 tables. So, I think I will be running at less than $10.00 a table.  A substantial savings.

We officially booked the Cape Codder Resort for May 29th, 2010, not Sunday May 30th.  The saturday became availble.  The deposit is down, the scary contract with liquidated damages is signed and the room is mine.

I am pretty much between two different photographers.  Both came from word of mouth.  To be honest, I am interviewing one of them but I am pretty sure I will go with the other.  However, I never make final decisions until all the results are in.  Both of them will cost under $3,000 which is at least $1,000 less than the average cost for a photographer in Mass.

American Saturday Night

Brad Paisley's new album American Saturday Night FINALLY comes out today.  The only way I could get more excited about this was if Brad Paisley himself gave me an autographed copy.

Wearing a cowboy hat.
naked.
after cleaning my house.
in aruba.
with a pizza.
and a pitcher of margaritas.
and a puppy.

Check in: Week 9

1000 Reasons Being a Grown Up Blows

#998 Dishes

I find the dishes as infuriating as laundry, they never stop piling up.  If you don't do them you get mice.  The only way to cut down on dishes is to cut down a rainforest.

photos

As of today this photo project is officially a weeklong project. I have put in about 80 hours. First I found, organized and uploaded every digital photo I have, besides the ones I lost and the ones on my college computer in storage (that will be today’s project). Then I scanned all the photos I own. I organized and uploaded all of them as well. All these photos were uploaded to photobucket. On photobucket each individual photo was tagged with year, people, location, event ect.

My photobucket pictures are perfectly organized.

Then I backed up all my photos onto my desktop and my external hard drive.

Then I moved on to making sure the pictures were perfectly organized on my computer. Already there were 3000 pictures. So I made myself understand Picasa and I individually tagged each and every of the 3000 photos with location, event, people ect so that each photo would be cross-referenced.

Then I uploaded each of these albums to Picasa web albums. Picasa web albums, but not the application, has facial recognition (like ilife 09 which I cannot afford). So I facially recognized all my photos. Im about two thirds of the way of facially recognizing my second online back up.

Off to pick up my computer in storage. Someday I’ll be glad I did this, but today I am just sick of it.

dry socket

if no one has ever told you, dry socket sucks ass.

Welcome to Digital Photo Organization Hell

Back in January-ish my beautiful lovely infallible Macbook crashed.  I lost photos from my high school reunion and holiday photos of my grandmother who passed away.  I, however, did not find out about this until last Friday when I decided to look at them.  Then I had to collect all my photos from all my computers. Internet sharing sources, ect and realized they were gone.

After recovering from the shock that I managed to lose some beautiful photos of the last days of my grandmother’s life, I decided I needed to get organized.  Because something like this can’t happen again.

I looked at my ilife, I downloaded picasa, I joined shutterfly, snapfish, flickr, and photobucket.  What the heck is the best way to keep organized!?!?!

Picasa

Frankly, I don’t get it.   I know a lot of people love this program, but it is not easy for figure out for the severely computer impaired.  I want my pictures organized, but I want to do it quick and easy.  I also want an Internet back up.

The down side to no like picasa is that it is the only organization site I looked at that has an on your computer not on the internet component.   Maybe someday Ill figure out how to use this program, until then it is not the solution.

It is not my favorite, but I intend to continue to use it.  Once I figure it out, I think it will be great for organization, but until then I will have to use it in conjunction with another site.

Shutterfly

I found the upload process to be slow.  Although the printing and processing is easy to use, as well as album organization, there is no tagging capability.  I want to tag my photo’s to easily organize.  If it was just about albums I could keep them organized in folders and back them up on my blog.

I will pass on shutterfly.  The interface is easy, but its organization techniques are far too basic for someone with hundreds (or thousands) or photos.

Flickr

Instead of Albums flickr has sets.  I don’t hate the sets.  They work just like albums, they just have a different name.  I don’t know how I feel about “photo streams” but that is just personal preference.  The tagging is very easy to do.

Photobucket

This program has very easy tagging and album organization.  All your tags are shown on the side of all screens, where they are easily accessible.   I use photobucket for blogging on Thundersquee.

I choose photobucket.  Flickr is fine. Its pretty easy to use and does what I want, but I have found that I personally like how photobucket works better than flickr.

I will note that I found flickr’s upload times to be much faster than photobuc

Photobucket also allows for slideshows an remixes with music, such as this slideshow of me and the fiancee starting in highschool.  Yea... we went to prom together.

country

Dear April,

How can you deal with that country music shit????

Dear Friend,

Get ready.  It will happen to you.  This is how it works.  You get into one song. Maybe its a cross over, like something from singer/songwriter/country star/turned pop star/turned actress/turned QUEEN OF THE FREAKIN' UNIVERSE/looks like a mermaid because she's always blurry Taylor Swift.  Or maybe its  a song they play at your favorite bar, like Alcohol, or I Love this Bar.  Whatever it is, you get into one song.  You really like it and all of a sudden that twang you have always hated about country music is gone.  They other fast/funny/drinking songs are really enjoyable too.

Basically at first you are jamming to pop princess taylor swift and then all of a sudden you are rocking out to Aland Jackson, blaring charlie daniels yellin' TURN IT UP.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

unsure

Over the last two years we have had money problems.  Living on an apprentice plumber salary and a few law school loans in Boston is tough.  I thought I was used to it.

This is different.  Are bills have seemingly mutiplied, my loans are non-existant and his salary doesn't cut it.  I am working shifts scooping ice cream and he is working his job, side jobs and at his parents.  It doesn't seem enough.

We finally figured out how to get the grocery bill down to about 80 bucks (from 120) when his student loans DOUBLED and now that they have doubled our insurance is due again.

Everyone said law school is hard, but I didn't realize they meant drowning in bills before you even get your first loan bill.

My phone is off.  My cable is back.  My cell phone will be off.  My electricity is on.  I can't miss credit, insurance, or loans, but they amount to more than two full pay checks.

On the bright side, I have caught 9 mice.  I seen no more evidence and no longer hear them.   I may very well be mouse free.

1000 Reasons Why Being a Grown Up Doesn't Blow

#999 Being in Charge of What is For Dinner

If there is boring monotony in your dinner selection when you are an adult, its your own damn fault.

I love dressing up the basics: grilled cheese with olive oil & basil oil, tomato, and low fat fresh mozzarella.   Or break out my 30 minute thai recipe book.
